An ice manufacturing plant in Boston posed the unique opportunity to interface the disparate contexts of the Industrial and Multi-Family Residential zoning subdistricts. The image of the building is a reflection of the “ice” that is produced within; a “light” permeable and simple geometry that is iconographic of its production and business mission and reminiscent of its industrial context. The design seeks to reinterpret the historical industrial aesthetic by understanding the forms, materials, details and images that result from the urban context.
