A historic restoration and new addition to the 1842 Robert Mills designed Custom House includes a museum expansion, Essex County visitor center, water based education space, and an annex gallery for the U.S. Coast Guard. The project site is a narrow parcel along the Merrimack River and is adjacent to a proposed public park. Initial concepts include sensitive massing relationships to the historic museum, code required accessibility and the creation of an image and experience.
