An addition built on a rear parcel has restricted views to the street, code restricted windows openings, and less desirable views of the adjacent lots. The design re-directs the focus to an interior environment with a sun filled “skylight stair
hall” and “light shaft” that provide natural light for each floor. Simple geometric volumes and fiber-cement clapboard siding using various standard widths utilize the skills of local trades and reflect the neighborhood context.
